Well, I have to say that this past year has been exciting!
It's my birthday in less than 2 weeks, and I wanted to reflect on the last year which has gone by, so hopefully in the future I can look back on this (I might make a youtube video of this as well)
Now I'm talking about "this past year", from when I turned 18, because, to be honest, a LOT has happened!

Last November till New Years I was working on animation projects and creating a personal statement to apply to university. I have to admit that it was a really busy time, and there was a weight on my shoulders that maybe none of the university's would accept me, so I'd have to find something to do with my life for another year. During this time I was also working towards taking my theory test for driving, so my attention was split. I also took time during the holidays to play games such as Bioshock, as I wanted to complete at least one game before I went to uni.

In mid January I got some interview dates for the universities that I had applied to, and one was less than a month away, so I had to get a portfolio together quickly! This interview meant a lot to me, as it was the university that I wanted to get accepted into the most!
After a crazy month I attended the interview and told that I had a good chance of getting onto the course, and less than a week after the interview, I got an offer from the university!! During February (2 days before the interview), I also passed my theory driving test, which meant that all I had to do was pass the practical, which I was extremely nervous about someone watching me drive.

The few months after that I spent going to other interviews and starting to think about what I should take with me to university, as well as continuing to animate and do classwork. During this time I even worked for a client, which gave me valuable experience! I also learnt that my friends would be going to the same university as me. During May (the 12th), I passed my practical driving test, meaning I was now able to drive a car by myself. It meant the world as I could now travel where and when I wanted in my car.

Finally, the summer holidays hit. And it hit me that I only had a matter of weeks before I moved out into a totally new place, a hundred miles from home. We started preparing and buying things for me to take with me, no idea if they'd fit into my room or not. I felt very conflicted during this time. I didn't want to leave home, but I was excited to be living with friends and studying art and animation.

The first night I knew would be the roughest. My friend and I had the place to ourselves, so spent the first night staying up till 2am, drinking wine and watching Adventure Time. The next morning I felt rough, really rough. I wasn't in my own room, I was no where near home with no means of getting back easily.

For the first week or so it kind of felt like that I was staying in a hotel, but it just had all my stuff in it. I felt really ill during that week and ended up catching a bad cold. My other friend moved in the day after me, and we met our other flatmates (there were 6 of us in total). It was difficult to meet new people, but I tried to be friendly to everyone I met and managed to make a couple of friends during the enrolment which took place the week after.

After that it's just been classes, learning perspective, drawing and generally getting better at art. I hope to make some money through commissions for Christmas presents this year, and earn a bit of money for a special treat when I finish this year of university.

Well, this is what happened to me in the last year, I hope it was insightful!

Take care;
